Rotavirus is a severe infectious and transferable virus which causes gastroenteritis and swelling of the intestines and stomach. Dehydration is considered a main cause of rotavirus and can cause death. Rotavirus affects adults and aged people but causes severe effects on unvaccinated kids.

Strong immunity developed in adults during childhood so they are considered less harm by rotavirus. Adults having weakened immune system can easily influence by rotavirus. They could also get the virus from their childhood. This dehydration is the most severe and can cause the death.
How long rotavirus lasts in adults:
Fever and vomiting are the starting symptoms of rotavirus. Rotavirus can last in adults from 4 to 7 days. Signs could last in feces for almost ten days. From the stool/feces sample, this virus can be diagnosed.
- A person infected with rotavirus should avert from others till 48 hours.
- Wash and clean hands properly before eating and when came out from the washroom.
- Clean the toilet properly after attending it if a person is suffering from an infection.
- Continuously clean toilet, door handles, surfaces of the washroom, sink taps, handle of flush.
- People who are caring for infected persons should clean their hands and use separate hairbrush, towels, utensils.
- A virus-infected person should not use swimming pool until 2 weeks.
Treatment of Rotavirus:
There are not any specific treatments and medicines that will treat directly rotavirus infection. For its treatment antibiotics, antiviral, drugs of anti-diarrhea are used.
It is suggested by doctors that the best treatment is to remain hydrated during infection. Some tips are discussed below which can overcome the infection:
- Consumed enough of fluids.
- Prefer soups.
- Take Pedialyte or electrolytes type of fluids.
- Avoid consumption of carbohydrates.
- Prefer saltines and white toast.
- Hospitalization is suggested only for them who’s undergo serious dehydration.
